22. THE PASSING AWAY OF THE GREAT KHWAJA GHARIB NAWAZ (R.A)

Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hassan Chishty Sanjari (R.A) after having brought the message of Islam and having preached its doctrines on the soil of India, left for his heavenly abode on 6th Rajab 633 Hijri (March-1233 A.D.) at the age of ninety-seven at Ajmer Sharif (Iinna-lillahi wainna ilaihi rajiun). It is a fact that, in the past 750 years, millions of people have been inspired by his love and pious preaching. A large number of pilgrims are attracted to his Holy Shrine at Ajmer Sharif from every nook and corner of the world. They come to pay their homage and receive blessings.

The Great Hazrat Khwaja Baba’s (R.A.) life and mission is indeed rare. His simple teaching, his affection for the down trodden and his piety amazed everyone –even his enemies. He was a man of peace and goodwill towards all of God's creatures. These gifts were bestowed by the Almighty only upon his chosen few, whom he commands to reform mankind whenever if goes astray. Due to the absence of authentic documents, there is a slight disagreement on the Great Hazrat Khwaja Baba’s (R.A.) date of birth and death. Even the Enquiry Committee on Dargah of Khwaja Baba’s (R.A.) affairs, in their report dated 13th October 1949 is undecided. His death anniversary is therefore celebrated every year during the first six days of Rajab (Islamic month). If it is held that the year of Khwaja Baba's birth is between 535 A.H. and 637 A.H. as is the general opinion of many. We can easily conclude that all the relevant events of the Saint's life up to the time of his death reconcile chronologically, leaving no room for doubt.
