29. BUILDINGS AT DARGAH SHARIF

 

29.9 THE MAHFIL KHANA (SAMA KHANA):

The Mahfil Khana was constructed by Nawab Bashirud Dowla Sir Asman Jah in the year 1308-1309 Hijri, 18­88-89 A.D., one of the Prime Ministers of the Princely State of Hyderabad, Deccan at a cost of Rs. 80,000 and the work was carried out from 1888 to 1891.A. D. It is 46 feet square with a gallery 14 feet wide running round it. This Sama Khana is especially used during the days of Urs Sharif for Qawwalis and mahfils and also on the occasion of Urs of Hazrat Khwaja Usman-e-Harooni R.A. (peace to his soul).

During the Urs Mahfils, the Qawwalies are quite impressive; famous singers from all over India visit on this most auspicious occassion and display their talented composition to the audience. The Sufies; Derveshes and devotees attend these same Mahfils.
