COLLEGE AJMER
Mayo
College, Ajmer sometimes called the 'Eton of
India' is situated on south eastern' out
skirts of Ajmer. It was founded under the
auspices of Lord Mayo, the Vice Roy of India
(1869-72)" exclusively and purely for the
education of the sons of Chiefs, princes and
Leading Thakurs of the Rajwaras of the then
States.
The College building is a noble structure of
unpolished white marble, which is available
near Ajmer City.
There is a Clock Tower, made of pure white
marble, which is 127 feet high in front of
the main entrance to the building on a
pedestal six feet high, stands an imposing
statue of Lord Mayo. In short, there are
houses (hostels) for the pupils named after
their own states. At present the Mayo
College is known as Public School.
