29.21. THE TARAGARH FORT

The most renowned fort of Rajaputana, which is commonly known as Taragah is situated on Beetli Hill. Beetli Hill is that part of the hill where Taragarh Fort is situated.

The Akhbarul-Akhar says that the first fort built on a hill in India was the fortress of Taragarh. It was built in the seventh century of the Christian era.

Hazrat Miran Saiyyed Hussain Khang-Sawar was the Millitary Officer in the army of Sultan Shahabuddin Mohammad Ghouri. He was appointed Governor of the fortress of Taragarh and said to have been slain on the 17th Rajab H. 598 (1202 A.D.) This night attack was organized by Rathore and Chowhan Rajputs who jointly launched an attack when all the soldiers and army men were resting. All were killed and on getting information Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz R.A.A. (peace to his soul) performed their burial on Taragah hill.
