Wajd or Ecstacy in Sama or Qawwali
(Religious Songs):
The spiritual inspiration a disciple
receives from his Peer or Guider produces a
peculiar sensation, called WAJD or Hal (Ecstacy).
In this sort of ecstasy the murid or
disciples become galvanized and he shivers,
strikes his hands and feet against wall and
floor, falls down and rises again; dances,
and all his external senses become sometimes
suspended and he becomes totally unconscious
of the physical world. At this stage he
sometimes sees by his internal light, the
things of the spiritual world. The HAL or
WAJD Ecstasy comes and vanishes, and does
not stay constantly. This HAL or WAJD has
many classes.
This condition only appears in SAMA or
Qawwali when the Qawwals (the Singers group)
perform religious songs or any Couplet in
the Sufistic manner.
