Hazrat Khwaja Gyasuddin Chishty (R.A.)
migrated to Neshapur but he could not find
peace there because the people were hanging
in terrible suspension between life and
death. The brave Sultan had been fighting
the Tartars but he was unsuccessful. The
administrative machinery had badly
collapsed. Internally, there were serious
differences between the Fidayees of 'Qarmati'
and 'Batini' sects, one of whose members had
already murdered the learned wazeer (Nezamul-
Mulk). The innocent people of Neshapur were
massacred by the wild barbarous aggressors.
The Qarmati and Batini intrigues had carried
on centuries old grudge against the Sunni
Muslims. Those Muslims of the time were rich
and had enjoyed enough temporal and
spiritual powers for the last 500 years.
The Sultan of Neshapur
fought these invaders throughout
the time but could not control the internal
rebels. He was engulfed in wars between
himself and his disloyal and unfaithful
brothers. On the other hand, he was facing
the war against the Fidayees and the
barbarous Tartars. It was a very terrible
situation for him. Even though he fought the
forces of evil bravely, he was defeated.
Consequently, these invaders started
plundering every town in Khorasan. Crops
were destroyed, the cities were razed to the
ground, the inhabitants, Ulemas and Soofis
were mercilessly beaten to death, women were
raped, girls and boys were taken as slaves
and the religious institutions, historical
buildings, mosques and educational
institutions were completely destroyed. The
whole city was ruined. The Sultan
was arrested and these brutal
invaders reduced the magnificent Islamic
City to a heap of rubble and ruins.
